As one of the world’s leading institutions for the study of education, Teachers College, Columbia University has long been recognized for shaping the future of educational research, policy, and leadership. However, like many institutions in the education space, TC faced growing challenges around declining interest in education-related programs, concerns about student debt, and evolving conversations around representation and DEI. Seeking to stay top-of-mind for prospective students and drive stronger engagement with its programs online, the school partnered with VisionPoint Marketing to strengthen the visibility and enrollment performance of its academic programs through SEO.

Our Approach
VisionPoint implemented a comprehensive SEO strategy designed to improve discoverability, increase organic traffic, and guide prospective students toward conversion. Our work began with a full analytics and tracking audit, technical SEO audit, and keyword research process to identify opportunities for growth and optimization across the site.
From there, we developed strategic page and article topic recommendations aligned with high-value search behavior and prospective student interests. VisionPoint then created optimized program pages that highlighted degree offerings, faculty expertise, student success stories, program features, and career outcomes, helping prospective students better understand the value of a Teachers College education.
To further strengthen organic visibility and authority, we also produced a stream of SEO-focused blog content targeting relevant long-tail keywords connected to TC’s programs and areas of expertise. Alongside content creation efforts, VisionPoint implemented technical SEO remediations designed to improve site performance, search visibility, and user engagement.

The Results
VisionPoint’s SEO strategy delivered significant growth in organic visibility and engagement for Teachers College programs. Over the course of three months, program pages generated more than 8,000 page views – a 158% increase over the previous period – while active users increased by 153% to more than 4,800 users. Site engagement also surged, with more than 37,700 tracked events representing a 139% increase, including substantial engagement with “Apply” calls to action.
Our work also helped Teachers College rank for 426 keyword phrases directly relevant to its academic programs, significantly strengthening the institution’s visibility in search results. The estimated monthly paid search value of this organic traffic exceeded $11,300, demonstrating the long-term efficiency and value of the SEO investment. One program page alone – the online master’s in special education – generated an estimated monthly traffic value of $9,800, despite costing only approximately $3,000 to produce. Together, these results helped Teachers College strengthen its digital presence, expand program visibility among prospective students, and build a more sustainable foundation for long-term enrollment growth through organic search.
