Last week, I had the pleasure of presenting with Theresa Johnson from the College of Southern Maryland at #CASE2DC.

Our session provided an in depth look at the most common issues we run into during website redesign projects.

Although the presentation focused on the College of Southern Maryland as a case study, the challenges we discussed apply to colleges and universities across the board. Below are some of the key takeaways from the presentation.

Understanding Your Audience

It’s important to know who you are targeting and what information they are looking for.

WAY Too Much Content

Next you’ve got to figure out what to do with all of that information

Getting Users to the RIGHT Offering

Of course you want to show off everything you have to offer. But it’s important that people are able to navigate to the information they need.

We’re All (kind of) Unique

Communicating a consistent brand across all of those offerings is not easy, but it can be done.

Inter-Jargonmania

Be sure to use words that your audience will understand to make your site easier to navigate.

Making it Last

You spent a lot of time and money on this thing. It needs to continue to accomplish your goals for years to come.

If you'd like to see the full presentation, contact us and we'll send over a PDF of the slides. Also, be on the lookout for the College of Southern Maryland to launch their new website soon!
