We’ve got good news -€“ VisionPoint is buying a water buffalo!  Don’t worry, we haven’t decided to leave marketing in order to don overalls and start a traveling petting zoo.  Following the inspiring legacy of Bubbles the Goat -previously sponsored by VisionPoint through Heifer International -€“ Bubbalo the Water Buffalo will be putting his 6-foot, 1-ton frame to good use for a family in a developing country.

Now for a little perspective: of the 1.4 billion people in the world that live on less than $1.25 a day, 75 percent live in rural areas and mostly practice subsistence farming, only producing enough to feed their families.  Because owning a tractor isn’t feasible for these individuals, human or animal labor is most often used for farm work.  Providing Bubbalo to a family will allow them to increase production on their farm and bring this increased crop yield to market. They’ll enjoy an income boost that will facilitate improved access to basic necessities. And, being the "Tractor that Poops", Bubbalo will produce thousands of pounds of high-quality fertilizer, enabling crop diversification that will help control land degradation, thus fostering sustainable livelihoods.

This gift will not only positively impact the life of a family but also that of a larger community. We at VisionPoint feel that giving back is essential and is an important aspect of our culture. We are all very fortunate to live and work in a great place, with some of the best people you will ever meet. This is the perfect time of year to take a little bit of what we have and help make a positive impact in the lives of others. And, while a water buffalo may not be the most standard of charitable gifts, it will make a world of difference to the family that receives it.

We encourage everyone to find a way to make a difference this holiday season. If you’d like to take a similar path to giving back, check out Heifer International for other ways to make a positive impact in someone’s life. Whether it’s donating a water buffalo, volunteering at your local soup kitchen, or simply helping out a neighbor in need, we can all find a way to make a difference. From all of us here at VisionPoint, we wish you a happy holiday season!
