Thirsting for Knowledge is one of our nine Vision Points. We believe that learning and growing every day is essential to our company culture and the way we serve our clients.

Our Intern Program is one of the many ways that we put this value into practice. Every semester, we bring on 2-3 college students or recent graduates to fill opportunities ranging from project management and content creation to graphic design and web development. Note that copy-making and coffee-brewing are not on the list. From their first day on the job, our interns are a crucial part of the VisionPoint team. We expect them to work hard and make valuable contributions to our projects. We also expect them to learn new skills while teaching us a thing or two.

Over the past year, we have had the privilege of working with some outstanding interns. Here’s a quick sample of how a few of them are using their skills to achieve their goals.

Emily Berg

Project Manager Intern: Summer 2015

Current Position: Analyst for DigitasLBi (beginning in September 2016)

After my summer internship at VisionPoint, I returned to Williams College for my senior year. My experience at VisionPoint fueled my curiosity about consumer behavior, so I filled my final course schedule with classes in behavioral economics, human choice behavior, and psychology. In my behavioral economics class, I did a research project on how framing impacts consumer choices, looking specifically at how the wording of sales promotions influences how consumers respond to those promotions. As a senior math major, my capstone project was to mathematically model consumer choices in relation to the decoy effect, using a set of differential equations to examine optimal zones for companies to introduce new products into the market to increase sales of their other products.

In June 2016, I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A in mathematics. Shortly after graduation, I boarded a plane to Australia and spent the summer backpacking the east coast. In September, I’ll be moving to Boston where I will be working as an analyst in the Boston office of DigitasLBi, a global marketing and technology agency. I’ll be working in the agency's strategy and analysis division conducting research on market trends, using analytics to uncover new market segments, and collaborating with other teams at Digitas to integrate analytic results into our marketing approaches. I’m excited to apply everything I learned at VisionPoint in my new career.

Project Manager Intern: Summer 2015

Current Position: Graduate Teaching Assistant at NC State

Two weeks after completing the Project Manager internship at VisionPoint, I started teaching public speaking classes at NC State as a part of my Master’s Degree. During the internship, I was lucky enough to learn helpful project management techniques that I have been able to apply to plan a course schedule and more than 130 lesson plans. For example, when I shared my color-coded spreadsheet (inspired by the countless organizational tools used at VisionPoint) with some of my colleagues at NC State, they were truly impressed by such a professional-looking and detailed document.

I am glad that my connection to VisionPoint didn’t end with the last day of my internship. To teach my students persuasive speaking, I couldn’t imagine a better opportunity than inviting Tony Poillucci, an experienced public speaker and Creative Director at VisionPoint, to my class. Students had a task to persuade Tony to donate or volunteer with the nonprofit of their choice by delivering a powerful presentation. After listening to the group presentations, Tony awarded the winning teams and provided students immediate feedback. The class evaluations showed that students rated the activity with Tony as one of the best experiences that helped them become more effective public speakers.

Maria's Russian Festival

A highlight of my year after VisionPoint was the first Triangle Russian Festival that I initiated and organized in the Halle Cultural Center of Apex with 600+ guests. That was a perfect opportunity for me to combine my cultural heritage, background in folk dances, and my marketing and event planning skills. I was responsible for the overall event success from concept to implementation, working together with the Festival Committee, performers and many volunteers. Tickets to the concert were sold out several days before the event, and we received overwhelmingly positive feedback and encouragement from the community to continue this tradition. I look forward to finding more ways to use the skills I learned at VisionPoint to do the things that I really enjoy.

Marketing Intern: Spring 2016

Current Position: Marketing Assistant at VisionPoint Marketing

I came to VisionPoint after graduating from NC State in December 2015 with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I wanted to get experience in my field of study and found an opportunity to learn at VisionPoint Marketing. During my time as an intern at VisionPoint, I set many goals to help make the most of my experience. Some of them included learning as much as possible across a variety of company functions, finding a job that interested me, and to earn a full time position when my internship was up.

I am happy to say that I achieved all of the goals I set for myself! I learned more at VisionPoint than I had in my three previous internships combined. I found a job that focuses on Information Architecture, something that I never thought I would be doing, but it's something that I absolutely love.

My advice to future interns would be to treat this opportunity seriously and work hard towards your goals. You’d be surprised at how much you can learn about yourself and prepare for your future. I am so thankful to everyone at VisionPoint for the opportunities they gave me and the valuable experiences I will keep with me for the rest of my life.
