I’ll never forget my first meeting at VisionPoint. It was the weekly staff meeting, in which we always go around the room and hear from every team member about a challenge or accomplishment he or she had during the last week - personal or professional. What blew me away was how genuine it was - everybody was being honest and talking through his or her weeks. Then, when it got to Zac Henderson, who was at the time our Business Development Manager (now Director of Marketing), he spoke so profoundly about his appreciation for how the whole team helped him accomplish his goals and how he couldn’t have done it without the team doing such great work.

I was inspired.

When I came to VisionPoint as an intern, I was in the midst of starting what was essentially my third career. I had a rather short stint as a real estate agent and years upon years of working in restaurants while trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life. While interning at VisionPoint, I was also finishing my last year at North Carolina State University as I completed my extended undergraduate tenure. Like so many others, the first thing that I did when researching VisionPoint was navigate to the website, and that’s where I stumbled upon our values - or Vision Points.

Most companies have a list of values or pillars, but I don’t know that many eat, sleep and breath them the way that VisionPoint does. Seriously, we’re even measured against them during our annual review. It’s who we are, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.


This is who we are. Nobody is ever alone at VisionPoint. I get asked a lot during interviews who I collaborate with the most from our team - is it mostly Account Services people? How about the designers? Developers? Leadership team? The answer is simple. All of the above and then some. On a daily basis, I get the chance to work with just about everybody on our team. I rely heavily on them, just as we all rely heavily on each other. I’ve learned so much from each of my colleagues and I can’t imagine my day without them.

Thoughtful and Strategic

Every decision we make, and I mean EVERY decision, has some serious thought behind it. This is such an important part of who we are. It’s the foundation for our good work. From launching search ads on Google to designing and developing a university-wide website, it’s always based on thoughtful strategy that we work through together and with our clients.

Direct and Straightforward

This is one of my favorites - so much so that it’s actually on my business card. For me, it’s what allows us to do great work and have great collaborative relationships with each other and with our clients. I’m not a customer service rep and we’re not in the business of sugar coating the truth. If something isn’t working, we’ll tell you so that we can, by working together, try to make it better. It may sound a bit intimidating, but it’s actually quite the opposite. It’s empowering. If I mess up, I don’t have to worry about what my bosses are thinking. They’ll tell me in a constructive way and help me get better. And they expect the same from me. Diane, our CEO, asks us for our feedback all the time. Just like the rest of us, she is always looking on ways that she can improve. How often do you see that?!

Over the past 10 years or so, I’ve worked for several different companies in a couple of different industries. During that time, I have never experienced anything even close to what VisionPoint gives me. I may be biased, but what can I say - it’s my home and I love it.
