VisionPoint Marketing is a great place to intern. This statement pretty much sums up my summer, but for those of you who require a little more detail, I'll start with day one. I am a rising Senior in Graphic Design at NC State, but at the time of my internship start date, I had just returned to the country after studying in the Czech Republic for a few months.

At the time, I was feeling rusty in my Graphic Design skills because I had taken a semester off of my major to pursue other interests while abroad. I was nervous about getting back in the habit of designing, especially since I hadn't touched an Adobe software program in a couple months. However, I knew after my first day at VisionPoint that there was no reason to worry, it was evident that everyone in the office was incredibly welcoming. Within the first week I had had conversations with everyone and knew more than just first names.

I've had other internships in the past and have been very fortunate in that I've never played the stereotypical 'coffee-and-copy-maker' role. However, I do feel that this is one of the best intern environments I've experienced, simply because it is structured and exemplifies a lot of forethought. One aspect of VisionPoint's program that helped me a lot was having an intern manager. My manager was Dwight, VisionPoint's Graphic Designer. To give you an idea of the caliber of work Dwight produces, he was once referred to as a 'rockstar' by a client. In other words, I was in good hands and he was an incredible help to me when I was stuck on a concept or needed to talk out a design problem.

My skills as a designer strengthened as I received honest feedback and heard 'make it bigger' and 'don't stick so closely to the grid, it's boring.' I got to sit-in on client meetings where I gained a new found understanding of working with an outside party. I now have a stronger idea of what is expected when creating concept variations for a client as well as the quality of work expected during the execution process, which I know will come in handy in almost every design job.

There are a lot of great advantages to interning at a small company like VisionPoint. I never felt like a nonentity and was always included in company outings, meetings and events – which is a pretty big deal to an intern. I also received tons of one-on-one attention from everyone in the office when I needed it and got to see first hand how a designer functions within a company as well as how every one's positions work together.

I can honestly say that I had a lot of fun at this internship and am really grateful for the friendships and connections that I've made within the company. It has been a perfect environment for learning and growth and I consider myself very fortunate to have had this opportunity. Thanks so much to everyone at VisionPoint Marketing for being a positive part of my internship experience and keep up all of the amazing work!
