The trouble with blogging
SO the pressure has been on me to get writing in my blog. Some BRILLIANT ideas have popped into my head while driving home, while in the shower, just before falling asleep and at some other very inconvenient times that will remain private. But by the time I get into the office and begin the tempest that is my work day, these ideas have taken their place in the ether and are miles away from being typed into the digital realm.
And this has been the challenge that I’ve had about blogging. Do I appreciate the medium … the fact that it provides a ridiculously easy outlet for exercising my first amendment rights (wait is that the one about freedom of speech or is that the one about the right to bear arms?). In any case, yes I do appreciate this.
Do I understand the value that publishing this type of content on my website brings from an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) perspective? Hell yes … that’s a big part of what we do here at VisionPoint Marketing and I’ve seen first-hand the positive results its given our clients.
Do I make the time every week (or even day) to take advantage of these benefits? Am I accustomed to spending my ‘free-time’ in front of my laptop, capturing profound thoughts for all the world to see? Do I pretend to be so secure about my writing abilities that I feel 100% comfortable exposing myself to my clients and colleagues? Again … no.
But do I fully understand this new paradigm and all the good that can come about it? DO I ‘get’ what all the hype is about? Do I understand how this will positively impact my career and the success of my company? YES I do!
OK, that’s a lie. I REALLY want to say yes, but I honestly don’t. So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to contribute to my blog on a ‘regular basis’ (no commitments as to how frequently) and see where it takes me. I have a feeling that, like anything else that I experiment with, I’ll end up learning more during the process than what I can even imagine now … and that’s a really good thing no matter how you slice it.
So consider this my first foray into an experiment that will hopefully open my eyes to new things and give me fresh insight. If this is the case, I promise to share that insight in my blog. If not, then hopefully I’ll at least provide some interesting water cooler subject matter for my friends here at VisionPoint.
